Randall High School Captures 5A Division II State Championship

Richmond Randle captures first state title in school history.

Randall High School capped off a remarkable season by claiming the 5A Division II State Championship, a triumph celebrated by the entire community. Head coach Brian Randall, accompanied by standout student-athletes Chase Sampson and Landon William Callis, shared their thoughts and emotions following the historic victory.

“Extremely Proud,” Says Coach Randall

Reflecting on the season’s culmination, Coach Randall expressed immense pride in his players and their dedication. “Extremely proud, extremely happy for the boys, extremely happy for the community,” he said. “The kids worked hard for 16 weeks. They’re very deserving.”

The win also marked a significant milestone for South Oak Cliff, which has reached the state championship game four consecutive years. Randall credited their mantra of resilience: “We bully bullies. We don’t flinch.”

Defensive Resilience and Strategic Adjustments

The team’s defensive prowess was tested against a physically dominant South Oak Cliff (SOC) squad. “We played great defense all year,” said Randall. Despite being pushed by SOC’s size and speed, the team’s heart and belief carried them through. “The mind is everything. What you think, you become,” a principle instilled in the players from the weight room to the field.

When SOC scored quickly in the second half, adjustments were key. “We’ve had tough games, and those experiences prepared us,” noted Randall. The team’s “don’t flinch” philosophy proved instrumental in stifling SOC’s offense for the remainder of the game.

A Special Teams Showcase

Randall’s special teams shined, with a kickoff return touchdown to open the game and another pivotal return to close it. “We told Sean, ‘Don’t fair catch it, just get busy,’” recalled Randall. The unit’s dynamic play gave Randall a decisive edge in a game marked by intense competition.

Emotions Run High

The victory carried personal significance for Coach Randall, who was deeply moved when discussing his father’s influence. “My dad is an outstanding human being,” he shared. “He’s all about doing for others, and we try to instill that belief in the boys.”

This familial bond extends to the entire Randall High School community. “When you walk into that place, it’s like a hug. Everybody has each other’s back,” Randall said, underscoring the family atmosphere he’s cultivated.

Looking Ahead

While the team will take a few days to savor the championship, preparations for the future will begin soon. “We’re going to get right back to it,” said Randall. With a strong returning roster and the program’s foundation of grit and belief, Randall is poised to remain a powerhouse.

Senior quarterback Chase Sampson reflected on the season and his final game. “You just have to stay calm and keep the main thing the main thing,” he said. For the entire team, the journey to the state title exemplified resilience, unity, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.

Congratulations to Randall High School for an unforgettable season and a well-deserved championship!
